India has a huge influx of internet & mobile users. Till December 2013 the number of internet users is 21.4 crore & there are more than 60 crore mobile subscriber. In today’s fast moving world internet & mobiles are the main source to commit crimes.
There have been a series of amendments in the IT Act but there is still to ponder on the actual implementation of it with the judiciary & law enforcement agencies.
IT Act 2011 (Intermediary rules) have specified boundaries, rules & regulations but it is hardly in use. The fact that the conviction rate is less than 0.5 % spells India’s readiness to tackle cybercrime.
It is of paramount importance that every individual & organization should be able to understand the seriousness of cybercrime & deal with an ethical point of view. It is responsibility of every individual to protect himself from the dark menace of cybercrime.
